Solution
The EVGA 500B is terrible ajpaolello, although OP your PSU does need upgrading.
Get the Seasonic S12II 520w.
Made by Seasonic, and is very high quality.
By the way, an RX 470 is cheaper than a 970, and performs a little bit better. Crossfire is also an option in the future with the PSU listed.
Get this combo, comes out to $258. http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=AT-NT4704G&c=CJ

........I don't have a bias for any brands, this is a matter of statistical fact.
If you go through my recent threads, you'll see i've suggested the RX 480 numerous times for users.
In this case however, I believe the RX 480 to be the best option for OP, but it is still a fact that the 1060 is a better performing card by a considerable margin.
If you're not willing to accept facts and move on, then I'm afraid you'll never succeed as a forum user, because people will just keep bringing up the hard numbers.
Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh, not trying to be rude.

Yeah, sorry.
Poor choice of wording by me.
I meant that it is a terrible choice in this scenario, as it does not feature good quality components and is poorly priced.
Agreed on the author of that article, but I wanted to get my point across without link dumping.
I'm a little lazy like that, also it's 11:30pm here! 😉
I don't trust HEC as an OEM, but that aside the ripple at higher loads on the 12v rail isn't very good under higher load.
Here is what I mean: https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/500B/9.html
The ripple on the 12v rail gets too high for my personal liking on even a budget unit, although the minor rails perform well.
I agree with the rest of the statements you made though, the 500B is perfectly fine for a budget system with low power requirements (around 50%) and workstation PCs, my adjective use was a little over the top. ^.^
I'm simply suggesting that there are much better PSUs in that price range.
For a little more money there is a significant jump in quality of units, the CXM, S12II and XFX TS series as examples.

So for +$10 I get +9 FPS in some games? Why would I spend the extra cash for such a minimal benefit? If you have to say you're not trying to sound rude then you honestly shouldn't have put what might've made you sound rude. Now I know that you were trying to sound rude. Clearly I'm helpful to a lot of people.

Just saying.
