So obviously RTX has been announced and I do t really see myself paying the premium for it when I play at 1440p for single player gaming and 1080p for competitive games.

So my current upgrade is seeing me from a very outdated r9 280x to one of the the following;

Vega 64 - Gigabyte Gaming OC 8gb as I also have a free sync monitor. Currently in AUS I can get this for $699.

GTX 1080 - Haven’t picked a specific model yet but will have to fit in my case so would have to be under 290mm,
This choice as I’ve seen slightly better performance than the Vega in a couple of games that I play. Hopefully wouldn’t pay anymore that $800

Or a Gigabyte 1080ti gaming OC as this is the only card that fits in my case with decent temps clocks ETC, and would future proof me further a lot fitter than. The other 2 options and set me up for 4K If I desire but this come at a $1099 and just wanted an opinion on which card would be better suited to me? And if the jump to a 1080ti is worth the $300.

I can link the rest of my build if anyone also wants that.

That's US prices. OP is in Australia, the market there is quite different.

Gtx1080 is AU$700-750ish
Vega64 is AU$700-750ish
Gtx1080ti is AU$1000-1100ish

So currently, the gtx1080 is the best value for the cost vrs performance, but the question remains is that extra AU$300ish worth the possibility of moving to 4k gaming later, or will it be better to sell the 1080 later and go for a 2080/ti when eventually making the move.

Ah ok,

How did you know he's from AU? I thought people from AU put the"$" symbol after the price, not before it?

Nevermind. I just saw it in his post. I missed it. My bad
