Question Best GPU test ?

So I got a 5060ti 16gb from Microcenter and have until June 1 to return it. Was thinking of keeping it, but I’ve been playing a lot of Red Dead Redemption 2 lately and starting to get artifacts in cut scenes. A lot of times normal gameplay is fine. But I’m considering the idea to return it and either get another 5060ti 16gb, though I’ve considered biting the bullet to get a 9070 or 9070xt. If I decide to go nvidia what are the thoughts on the 5070 while I’m there? Is there vram a big thing for 1440p?

I’ve used quite a few amd gpus in the past but I got the 5060ti 16gb for 471 with tax and they have some 5070s for about 600 whereas the 9070s are closer to 700.

Thoughts? Or what’s the best stress test to test out the card I currently have? Though at the time I purchased the 5060ti, I didn’t get their 2 year warranty but I’m thinking I would purchase that if I go new card. Will probably go over on Monday. Just looking for opinions or feedback. Thanks

Artifacts likely due to drivers especially on new hardware like this. Have you tried to alter any settings to see if the artifacts persist? Can't go wrong with Microcenter!

I think I did switch it from Vulkan to dx12. I may return it and grab a new card to get the 2 year warranty just so I’m not dealing with potential rma later.

For reference this is the card I have now. I did get it for the $429 msrp as well. The performance is ok.

Wondering if I should just trade up for the 5070 or 9070 but the cheapest 9070 is $659. They do have a 9070xt for $699 though. Which I about hesitate on but wondering if should just go for it.

If I want to trade up and be more reasonable I see they’ve got these cards

But it’s labeled sff. Wonder if it would fit a standard case or look wrong.

In case your wondering it’s this setup.

Would have to check, pretty sure it’s this ram kit.

Using a ryzen 7 7700 non x and a Thermalright peerless assassin 120 se(white with rgb fans) and a 500gb gen 4 ssd for boot, then a 2tb nvme and 2tb sata ssd as storage.

Found this 5070 for $599. I’m fortunate to have Microcenter about 40 minutes from my house. I think I’m going to return my 5060ti and get this one and get the 5070 and a 2 year warranty with Microcenter. Thoughts? I know the reviews aren’t great due to it’s fans but it’s the cheapest 5070 I see and since I’ll have their warranty I figure it would be easy enough to go over and get it swapped.

You’re likely right about the drivers though. But it is a good excuse to upgrade lol. My finances just got a bit better so I wouldn’t mind a faster card anyway especially while I can still return the 5060ti.

If it's just RDR2 I'd bet on it being game specific rather than anything with the card. I totally get the convenience of a warranty through Micro Center to avoid RMA. If you're looking to hold onto the card for a while I'd say keep a 5060 Ti 16GB or go 9070 XT just for the additional VRAM. I can't imagine it'll be much of an issue in the near term, but we've already seen some that need 12GB for higher settings.

While there aren't many games that benefit notably from higher resolution textures Space Marine 2 is one. It can be nice to be able to get relatively free additional fidelity from high res textures.

As for testing graphics I tend to run through benchmarks from any games I have installed with built in. I also have 3D Mark installed and there are a bunch of available tests.

Yeah it’s one of those things I’d considered upgrading in a few months to a year though the card isn’t actually a bad performer. My resolution is 1440p so a 5060ti or 5070 actually works fine. The 9070xt may almost be too much card but it’s within 100 of the 5070. A 5080 is too much and a 5070ti is basically the same as a 9070xt but more money. I looked at a vanilla 9070 but those are 659 so for a few more bucks I could have the xt. It’s one of those situations where the 5060ti at msrp makes a lot of sense but I wouldn’t mind having that warranty.

Wouldn’t mind doing that, but I have until June 1 to return the card I’ve got. So I imagine the 5070 super is a way of, otherwise that would definitely be a consideration.

Too bad the 9060xt won’t be out until the 5th, otherwise I’d likely get one of those.

Let me ask this since I’m going to Microcenter later today. I’m looking at the rtx 5070 for $599, a 9070xt for $699, but I’ve also considered the 5070ti. They have some of those for about $825. Is there a reason to go that route? I’ve owned and cards in the past and I will say with the 5060ti, I’ve gotten to where I don’t mind frame generation and dlss. I can certainly see why people like nvidia cards due to those features. I guess I’m wondering if paying extra for the 5070ti is worth the extra $$ for those things.

I’ve certainly considered the 5070 non ti but keep wondering if 12gb vram is enough. Some of the gameplay I see on YouTube for example showed the cards many times already at 11gb vram.

The 9070 xt AsRock steel legend for $699 would be good, plus it looks really nice

I ended up with the AsRock Steel Legend 9070xt. Paid $699 for it and so that was a pretty good deal. I think this card should be good for a while. Though to be honest I almost wish I’d spent the extra on a 5070ti. However once I get acclimated to AMDs interface again I should be good.

Love or hate Nvidia, one thing I did discover and that AMD very much needs to catch up on is how far ahead Nvidia seems to be in their software development. I say that because for example, they have the Nvidia app which scans the games on your pc and lets you optimize them to what settings they think will run the best without you needing to do a lot of intervention if you don’t desire to. AMD seems to want you to play for a bit then tinker with stuff. It’s fine, but Nvidia definitely seems to have a bit of an advantage there, though AMD is catching up in RT and with FSR 4. I think the cheapest 5070ti was $824.99. So I didn’t do too bad for $699. Oblivion remastered looks great at ultra settings on 1440p. I’d have to look if I’m using frame gen but I am pretty sure I’ve got fsr 4 turned on in the driver and was running for the little bit I played it up to 200fps. I think this card should be good for a while. Plus it matches my white Lian Li 216 with the front rgb fans and white Thermalright peerless assassin 120se cooler. I’ll have to post a picture sometime when I’m near it.

Nice card. Maybe nvidia software has some benefits but AMD has working drivers, I kind of prefer those. Nvidia hasn’t managed to get those right for months on end now and they don’t really seem to care that much.

I imagine that as large of a company as Nvidia is that eventually they’ll get the drivers right. But if their focus is more on AI they may have an attitude of we’ll get to when we get to it.

However, I will say I was playing Oblivion for a bit, and was noticing flashes in the area of Ruler Castle in the night. So like ok, maybe something was up with the card. But when I readjusted settings and told it to start a new game(haven't played a whole lot of the story yet), then at least the first parts of the game looked fantastic on Ultra so maybe the one scene perhaps that was part of the game. It had been a couple of weeks or so since I'd fired that game up. But it did look great. I'm sure AMD like Nvidia will keep working on improvements. But this card should last me for a while.

Load up Starfield and see if that gives you any issues, I donno for the last couple of times I've ran Starfield it got unplayable, hope it's just a onetime glitched game thing for me, could be because everything else I ran up till now works fine, any ways for your Sitch, stick to all the tests that 3dmark has, I think that does very well to test stability of a GPU, besides playing various games you got installed.
