Best Graphics Card for $300

Solution
well the gtx 970 is a bit over 300 dollars. but worth every cent of it. then there is the r9 290x, but you may need another PSU for that.
both are similar in performance.

the r9 290x draws more power, and runs hotter.

please say what power supply you are using.

that's not a verry good powersuply, you may want to look into replacing that with a better unit before the warranty runs out.

as for your graphics card, it's up to you, personally I like the gtx 970 more, but it's more expensive aswell. so if you can push the budget a bit, go for it.

is it recently bought?
reviews and users on forums(it was a fast google) say different things. some say they have bene using theirs for a while, some say it broke quite fast and is unstable.

better safe than sorry right? there are some decent PSU's out there for a good price. xfx has a good 550 watt PSU for about 50 dollars. which will be sufficient to run your system.

I'll redirect you to the tierlist, perhaps someone who's more knowlegable about power supplies can help you out more than I can.

it can be a couple of things, but yes a bad power supply can be one of the reasons(it's the more common one)

You think a bad PSU? based on your sig..Kinda surprised coming from a CX owner, or not.

cx isnt top of the line, but it's not bad neither. it gets the job done. it's in tier 3 because of cheap components, not because of bad stability.
as for the rosewill PSU, nothing much to be found about it. but. it's not in the tier list for example. but after a fast google, some ppl claim it's not very good, some ppl claim they never had problems. that's why I redirected him to the tier list, as that is where the specialists are.

also, I never said it's a bad PSU, I said it could be. no reason to attack me.

perhaps something constructive would be more in place here?

yes I know, but they also have some poor quality ones, I'm basing myself purely on the tier list now.

but some of the rosewill are listed in tier 4 even, which could be the case for this. there is no mention in the list about "stallion" series.

and now to the OP, I suggest you ask someone knowledgable about it. because if you're going to buy an expensive GPU, you dont want a cheap PSU to blow it up!
