Why they waste chips on low end cards is beyond me. With the advent of 1080/ti consumer cards the other cards are just legacy. I see only very modest production cost increase between a 1050 and 1080 type card. The product manager team, engineers, manufacturing ties up precious resources that we all have to pay. Make one card, then top it with the next one and convert the old line to new. Cheaper for all of us.
I don't see those prices as falling. The 1070 was introduced to be $269 an thanks to the bit-coin jerks it hasn't been near that number since day one...when it ever hits it's MSRP I may bite.
I by chance purchased a Vega 64 for $500 back in Nov. '17. Then prices went ballistic. Never seen the prices drop back to retail. 1070 and 1080 got on a horse and galloped beyond the horizon. With games consuming more processing power, cryptomania's making gaming a rich man's and techie's pleasure. Unless you like potato graphics.

yep for sure...I'll just stick with the R9 x390 for now...same thing with the latest iteration of mobo's , cpu's & ram...the new band wagon is too rich for me and my 1080p ... not obsessed with always having the latest greatest....functionality will do
on the same token a Rolls Royce gives a slightly better ride..but the ole Chevy'll get 'cha there too...when I first saw the introduction to the 1080 & 1070 at the prices they suggested...said to myself...looks like that 1070 is right down my alley but then...I agree the 1080 is a heck of a card but just can't see putting that kind of money in it..same thing with the Titan a few yrs back...great cards both but not for me...if I was really into heavy duty things that required a darn good GPU I can see where that is a good option...almost all of the higher end cards have their pluses and minuses..but for me if it pushes a 1080p with good frame rates an all...I'll just dance with the one that brung me...

May of last year, while waiting for the Vega's to be released, my RX390 kacked so I went on the hunt for a lesser card to pacify. I found a Sapphire RX 580 N+ 8gb 'limited edition' and I waited a week to buy. When I was ready, they had sold out.. ? WTF. It was released 3 weeks ago. In a hurry I purchased a lesser Sapphire RX 580 N+ 8gb for the same price and 3 days later, it was sold out. The next week, all brands selling RX 580 8gb were sold out. Only RX 580 4gb cards were available. The miners bought out all 8gb cards. I'd never saw that coming.
I had an EVGA GTX 1070 on price alert on their site. Got the price alert email at work on my phone and was happy. Got home 5 hours later and they had been cleaned out.

Yeah, I hear you. I'm still amazed. I was at Fry's last year, May and witness the last time I seen a GTX 1070 on their shelves. I was 10ft. away from the customer when he grabbed it.
Ethereum is the #1 most profitable coin as of 5/1/18. ASICs are VERY expensive, so GPU mining will continue for sure. As a miner and a gamer, I'm glad to see prices go down a bit. People crying about prices and scarcity of hardware are just a bunch of cry babies.
