I'm buildling my own computer and planning on getttin the Intel Northwood 2.8 HT processor. What are some of the better chipsets optimized for HT and Dual DDR400? I'm also planning on overclocking my cpu.

Thanks

I agree.

BTW you will have to have windows XP in order to take advantage of hyper threading, 2000, ME and 98 cant use it.

I have Windows XP, but I use Debian(Linux) most of the time.

I was considering the ASUS P4P800 for around $103, compared to the Abit for around $91. I've heard good things about ASUS, expecially for their overclocking abilities. What do you guys think?

P4P800s are great boards. I've built two computers based upon them and never had any problems with either.

Edit: And hyperthreading does work with 2000pro.

Since both boards are kinda old I'd look at Anandtech's summer review of 26 boards in 2003. The IS7 beat out the P4P800 and also offers more features. I'm one of the many people who suffered vCore instability on Asus's recent boards.

Hey, I'm only telling the truth. I got a P4C800-E Deluxe because I was doing a memory review on XMS PC4000 Pro and couldn't get my AMD boards to hit 250MHz memory clock, so I went straight to the board Corsair said they used for testing the RAM. I've always shopped for best value unless there were exceptional circumstances such as these. And Abit offers more features for less money than Asus. And I did find out about the CPU voltage control issue on newer Asus boards through the purchase of one.

Im using 2000pro service pack4, here you can see that intel does not recommend using hyper threading with 2000pro:http://www.intel.com/support/platform/ht/os.htm?iid=ipp_htm+os&

Hyper threading is enabled in BIOS, but windows 2000pro does not support it.

I've been told that service pack 4a supports HT with Windows 2000. Please correct me if you know better.

Well it doesnt work on my system so I dissabled it in BIOS, I will have another go when I have finished refilling my water cooling system.
