Best laptop/ netbook for £300

hi tom's members....when it comes to laptops, my expertise completely boils down to nothing. So my friend wants a laptop/ netbook for her university work, that would obviously include writing assignements, surfing the web and occasional movies and music. so what is the best possible laptop/ netbook that she could buy for £300? i considered the Chromebook, but the fact that it only has 16gb of storage and the rest 100gb is on google cloud, what if there isnt an internet connection?....so any help is appreciated

hmm ok i dont know, dont particularly like the looks and has on outdated OS, across chromebooks i came across the Samsung 550 chromebook, and as far as windows laptops go the Lenovo Flex 14 with an i3-4010u....i like your recommendation of getting a SD card

the price it is for the intended use which is writing assignments , surfing the web, etc is not worth buying if that made sense. also the screen is made of low quality parts.
