Best method of painting heat spreaders?

I'm custom building a PC with a yellow and purple color scheme, but can't find ram of either color. I've seen and heard that you can spray paint them yourself, either by taping over the PCB and just pray painting it all as one, and I've also heard of taking the heat spreader itself off painting it and then putting it back together. Which of these (or others) methods would you say is the safest and most efficient?
Also i know that it decreases the ram's life span, so is there any way to make it completely safe for the modules?

maybe you could look at getting them powder coated.. Taking heat spreaders off is by far the best option.

DDr 3 or ddr 4 I have seen several ddr3 modules that are yellow but none in ddr4 yet.

Well most of the heat spreading plates on ram modules are aluminum.
The color you see on them is done by anodizing.

You can have it stripped off, and anodized to what ever color you wish.
Just look up a company that does anodizing in your local area.

For the size of aluminum you wish to be processed it will cost you very little to get it done.
And you will end up with a quality look and finish.
Time to pull the yellow pages out.

Team has made gold ram sticks in DDR3 which might be an option. but honestly if you're not overclocking the snot out of the ram, any decent paint will be fine. there's not THAT much head going on there.

if you have the money, you can get a custom anodize done since most heat spreaders are aluminum.
