I am new to AMD and from what I have read the athlon with the thunderbird core kicks ass. Whats the best mother board to overclock with I hear that the asus A7V is good?? Also do you overclock the athlon the same as you do a PIII??? Increase FSB and volts as needed?? Also are there any hardware conflicts that I shouls know about??? Thank you in advanced

I persoanlly like the Abit KT7 RAID board because it has more features than the Asus. Both are good however. Good choice with the AMD. I swear I will never buy intel again. I am pissed that I bought my bro a P3 700 CPU for 200 bucks when my friend's Duron 700 kicks its ass for 60 bucks! But anyway, the KT7 RAID is sweet because it has active chipset cooling, 3 phase power supply, 6pci, 1isa, ATA RAID support built in, and an awesome soft bios which lets you adjust everything in the bios. No need for jumpers like the Asus board. OCing is a bit different with AMD stuff in that you can unlock the clock multiplier. Check out Tom's guide on unlocking the L1 bridges of the Duron/athlon. The KT7 bios has the nice FSB adjust, a nifty FSB+ feature which increases the cpu and memory bus speed, but not your PCI cards, and multiplier select. It also lets you increase the core and IO bus voltages. Trust me...it is sweet. If you have any questions, let me know.

I have got the ABIT KT7 raid. Easy to overclock in the bios using soft menu 3.

thats cool I have a p3 600 running at 840 on an Abit board but I want to step into the athlon world, whats the best speed to buy that will alow good o/c. I also am curious on how the bus is on the athlon. I hear that it runs at like 200 mhz, but is that anly between the processor and northbridge, so all you need is 100 mhz sdram. I think that I'm wrong though.

i would say, KT7 but if you are looking to built your computer soon, then you should really wait for a ddr board. i heard asus is coming out with a ddr real soon, and abit a little latter. but if you can't wait, then go with KT7, it's simple and stable.

anotherthing, you do somewhat OC an athlon like a P111 but instead of just FSB and Vcore, you mostly do Multiplier and less FSB and Vcore.
