Hello. Right now I am running internet off my original modem router combo given to me by Windstream. It is very old, slow, and a piece of broken junk. I am looking for a great replacement and was about to but the Netgear D6200, but I wanted to see if anyone here could give me a better option. I found the D6200 new for $95 somewhere, so unless you can beat price or tell me a good reason not to buy it, i'll be getting it soon.

Thanks for the input! 😀

I don't recommend a modem/router combo unit. Routers have evolved MUCH faster than modems. Get a discrete modem and discrete router. You can reuse the router if you change ISPs or you can reuse it as a WIFI access point. You ISP should publish a list of approved modems for your tier of performance.

I see your point. But the fact is, if I was to buy a new modem and new router for $100. The outcome would be less than if I just get one. Look into that combo, the specs are very good for that price.

Honestly if you plan to move away from DSL in the near future it will be better to buy them separately. How much do you care about your speed? Will you plan to move to cable or fiber if it becomes available? Unless you have a networked drive that you play music or movies off of or a old/large house you do not need an AC router with your internet speed. A good N router will be better and cheaper.
