I'm building a pc for my father and the main reason he needs it is movie viewing so if I'm going to give more money somewhere it's going to be the monitor. I wonder though does Hz matter to a monitor for 1080p movie viewing ? Does IPS technology matters so much? I'm looking to buy something around 300 Euros max of 350 ( I'll have to sacrifice hard disk space to go that much so it better be good. ) Please explain to me the reason you are suggesting the monitor.

the hz doesn't matter at all... you dont even need a video card, onboard CPU video is fine. All you're doing is playing back video at a set refresh rate. that's easy.

compared as into gaming, you're video cards are actually rendering it in real time.

so any 1080p 60hz standard monitor is fine. your only real option comes from size.
The advantage of a monitor vs. an HDTV is in the response time.... again for you, this is irrelvant... considering HDTVs are cheaper than monitors, I'd go with a big 1080p plasma or led.
