I'm building a system soon based on the A64 3000 or 3200. I was all set to get an MSI board, but now I'm hearing the $80 Chaintech is great and that MSI has quality issues. I don't plan on overclocking, so what would be the best nForce3 250 option?

Thanks.

why do you want nforce? only until late spring did the chip not have problems going as quick as via. now, it seems that with an nvidia video board, like a new one, it goes even faster on the MSI ones. The VIA k8t type chipset has been running at 1000mhz hypertransport without a bottleneck since its debut over a year ago. (something nvidia didnt crack after 3 tries till now).

I personally would go VIA chipset and MSI. The via on the msi have the ability to utilize ALL the possibilities that amd offers, including cool and quiet, which slows/cools things down when idle for a while.

Chaintech is a classic "i like that on here" so thats a cheap and decent option too.

Abit is as well.

The VNF3-250 is a real good board. So is the Zenith. EPOX has a nicely priced 250Gb chipset board for under $100.00 too. Soltek is making one also. MSI also is making a FISR board with the 250 chipset.

Abit IS7 - 2.8C @ 3.5ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - Yellowtail Merlot

I prefer boards by Asus, and Abit, for higher end systems. Since Abit is not using the nforce chipset, I would get the Asus K8N-E Deluxe. If you want a cheaper board, the sis 755 chipset is nice, maybe an Asrock K8S8X.

The new soltek one looks promising.. but i'm afraid ^^

46,510 , movin on up. 48k new goal. Maybe not.. :/

Wow, I haven't seen the K8S8X reviewed anywhere, have you seen anything? Could this be the 755 board Asus promised us so long ago, being marketed under their discount brand?

I can't remember everything, but I THINK I saw some news a LONG time ago that Asrock was a joint venture between Asus and ECS, with Asus being the parent company and ECS in charge of production. Of course you'll want to look up the info yourself, since I'm really not sure what I read.
