I own an old Pentium 3 desktop, I belive the Processor is a Pentium III @999mhz, It has 1GB of DDR Ram, Dedicaed Nvidia GeForce 2 and around a 40GB Hard Drive.

My dad insists of me getting rid of it, but insted I belive I can get this old thing going, after Trying WIndows XP Pro I am starting to doubt it's potential, insted I am wondering an alternative OS... Maybe Linux? Maybe you guy's can help me with this?

Maybe XPlite?

Honestly, that system is so old it wouldn't really even be any good for browsing. Old office applications and games from that period, depending on it's supporting hardware, would be about all it's good for. Possibly running a Unix OS for an older business database. Browser plugins and instructions used in modern browsers are unlikely to have any support with a P3. Aside from a historical perspective, I'd say it's not worth your time.

I see where your coming from, just getting Google Chrome wasnt easy I had to search for an older version supporting the processor. Even then when playing video's on youtube even at 240p it was a real struggle.

I was wanted to make a use out of it, maybe try some kind of Linux/Unix. With my current XP experiance Im not sure about taking the time to try out XPlite.

If you could help find a suitable OS (Mainly Linux/Unix based) that would be great!

Hey, What i did was run a non gui ubuntu on my pc and make it act as an in house server. The uses of it can be limitless. You could use it to access files on holiday or at work/school. You could use it to store games, Pictures, videos. Your pc and a raspberry pi could do a lot together

I was thinking about it functioning as a server, however is it easy to setup? What non-gui Ubunu should I use, would this still function as a normal computer at the same time?
