What's the most reliable PC brand today? I'm researching for a new desktop for a family member who doesn't game, but still wants a reliable and fast computer for everyday tasks. Are there any big sales on Ivy Bridge computers since Haswell just came out? Thanks.

Depends on the budget.
If your budget is crazy high, probably alienware, but since he isn't gaming I doubt it would be in his budget.
Otherwise big brands like - dell and HP usually are reliable and have good warranty's.
Mainly it's just on the parts and it's warranty though. Most companies try to save costs however they can without degrading performance, and they normally do this on the PSU. Just watch out what parts are in it.

... alienware? Really?

They're probably the worst boutique PC designer out there, in terms of cost and actual PC design.

These are my favorite computer manufacturers:
Toshiba
Asus
MSI
CyberPowerPC
IBUYPOWER
FalconNorthwest

Yup. I absolutely loathe Dell products and will never patronize them again after a bad experience buying a laptop from them.

But to answer the OP's question - none of the above. There really isn't a reliable pre built manufacturer out there, and here's why. The components on these rigs are usually trash. The OS is overloaded with so much garbage software you don't need, making these computers almost unusable.

what would be the best PC brand for playing MMORPG's + skype + other?
