Best PC games of last 10 years?

Hi

My old pentium 4 died last month and my new tower is a much more capable beast. As someone who is new to the PC gaming scene, I'm interested to know what's out there for me to try. I'm into pretty much anything so I'm open to suggestions, what games have y'all enjoyed this millennium?

Most recently I REALLY loved the new Tomb Raider game. I really did not care for the old Tomb Raider games, but this new one is one of the best games I have played in YEARS. Um.. The original Crysis and Crysis:Warhead are good slightly older games, still very impressive graphically.. Far Cry 3 is fantastic.. The Batman Arkham games are great (Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and now Arkham Origins). Borderlands 2 is very good, the Mass Effect games are good.. The Bioshock games are very good, I have heard that Alan Wake is amazing, but its too graphically intense for me to run so I haven't played it yet even though I own it.. Um.. Any of the Half Life games.. The most graphically demanding games at the moment, which also happen to be great games overall, would be the Metro games, Metro:2033 and Metro: Last Light.

Damn, i forgot this one, GTA San Andreas

Sadly, you did leave my favorite game out (Starcraft broodwar, year 1998), since its older than 10 years.

Hardest RTS ever created, and there are private servers and public servers running till today.

Also loved Diablo 2.

Most are already mentioned here but id like to add Amnesia - The dark descent -, Fallout 2, Tribes Ascend, Warframe,

Im actually quite surprised some people put in the same back games like deus ex 1 2 and 3...
Or all the call of duty series togheter.

And dragon age 1 and 2?

I have to disagree with a lot of those, like deus ex 2, dragon age 2, mass effect 3, max payne 3, all COD after MW1, ....
And diablo 3... that one totally blew my mind. I wouldent play it if it was F2P :D.

And eventually starcraft 2.... kinda. I mean, its a nice game, but gets boring quite soon. Once you get to a high rank, its all the time the same build orders so it dosent feel like RTS (Strategy, little of that).
In fact, a friend of mine got to grandmaster rank rank 23 doing always the same build just to prove that it was possible (and also proved how broken the game was).

That actually made me very sad since I waited for SC2 for 12 years :D.

You must play the Half Life series if you didn't do it on your console.
Also Battlefield 2 may be an old timer now but there are two mods still running populated servers: Project Reality and Forgotten Hope 2. I urge you check some videos on youtube if you like the Battlefield series but always wanted a bit more realism and teamwork.

Since 2003? Hmm. Limiting to only games I have played.

FPS -> Doom 3
3rd Person Action -> Batman: Arkham City, Saint's Row 2-4
Action RPG -> TES 4: Oblivion, FTL, Borderlands 1 & 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Traditional RPG -> Shadowrun Returns, Cataclysm (free Rougelike), DoomRL, most of the Bay 12 Games stuff
Simulator -> MS Flight Simulator 2004 (probably FSX as well but haven't played it)

There's a lot of great games from the 1998-2002 period though like Morrowind, Thief series, System Shock 2, Deus Ex 1, Unreal Tournament 1. But I restricted myself strictly to the allotted period.
