I have a AMD HD 7950 which has mini dp and hdmi ports, and the monitor I am thinking of buying has regular dp and hdmi ports.
What's the best way to connect the monitor to enjoy the full 2560 x 1440 @ 144hz resolution?

Monitor is Acer XG270HU btw.
I was thinking of just getting a mini dp to dp cable like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-32AWG-Mini-DisplayPort-Cable/dp/B0034X6SCY
but it's unclear what the max Hz it supports...

Solution
Only DP can handle 1440p 144Hz.
Get a cable that states DP 1.2 compatibility like this one: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Mini-DisplayPort-Adapter-Cable/dp/B002XVYZ82/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1463951999&sr=1-4&keywords=Mini+DP+to+DP+displayport+1.2

But it's also time for a GPU upgrade mate if you want to game @ 1440p 144hz and play AAA games.
Also, that GPU does not support FreeSync and it would be a shame not to use that shiny new FreeSync monitor how it's supposed to be used.

Mate, you are a life saver, I just assumed that since I had an AMD card it would automatically be Freesync compatible.
Hm, decisions, decisions!

Thanks for the input, much appreciated!

Ideally, wait for the next gen from AMD. Shouldn't be that long.
