Well the title speaks for itself. I own a fx 6300 and I wanted to buy the best graphics card for it (no massive overkills and huge bottlenecks if possible) to achieve 60ish fps on most games @ 1080p.

I was thinking of overclocking a bit the FX (not much, since I don´t have a great mobo) and buying a vanilla gtx 970 (since it´s about the same price of a r9 290 where I live) to squeeze the most out of the fx 6300. Do you think that card is waaaay too much? Is there a better option for that processor? I like the gtx 970 for the price-performance and it would give me a nice headroom for a future cpu upgrade.

Also, if I buy a 970... would zotac be a good choice?

Solution
Gtx 970 is a good choice but you have to know that fx 6300 will somehow bottleneck that gpu. If you don't mind that for now and since you're planning for a cpu upgrade in the future, 970 will be a good choice.

Look at this link. They all running gtx 780 and compare fx 6300 with other cpus

Thanks for your reply. The Asus and Gigabyte ones are between 10/15% more than the Zotac here. Idk if it´s worth the price (with that price difference I can almost buy a hyper 212 evo to put in my cpu to achieve slightly better performance and reduce possible bottlenecks).

Thanks for the benchmark. It seems that 970 will be the way to go. Any other alternatives that i might want to consider???

With plans of upgrading your cpu, gtx 970 will be a good buy for the future. You should have a psu with 550w to run it

Yeah, I have a Seasonic M12ii 620w to power my system. It should be plenty enough :).

you're good to go

need your help..
with that graphics card, what is competitor for Radeon side ?
