I am looking to purchase a 17" lcd to use along with my current crt, or maybe purchase 2 15" lcds. I also need idea's for a vid card with dual out's. I will be using the monitor mainly for programming and it will rarely if ever be used for any gaming.

Although a Compaq 7020, or 2 5030's and a rad8500 would be nice, I think it would be overkill for what I would be using it for.

Any sug's on an lcd or video card would be great, thanks

Best bang for buck I've seen with 17" is the Planar 17.4" which you can scrap from Dell for around $630 shipped with good response, contrast and brightness specs. If gaming or 3D is unimportant you may find a cheaper one but most will not have DVI input at that price.
For video cards, the radeon8500 oem is a good deal and has nice IQ and DVI output. There are lower radeons as well.
If price isn't a factor, that Compaq 7020 and radeon8500 would make a nice fit I'm sure.

Thanks for the reply, I looked into the planar and it looks great, though I could get an 7020 for $645. Is the extra .4" noticeable? Anyway I am trying to not buy any more of a monitor than I need. I would prefer to save the $$$ and get 2 15" lcds. Any thoughts on other LCD's/Vid cards? thanks

I think you would be wise to go for 2 15" displays, programming and web design is a dream with a dual-head setup. Be warned though, you can never go back to life without them...

Don't know much about the budget end of the market but Diamond's XEN-1510P has been well-received here in the UK. It uses an LG-Philips panel which are pretty good.

Yeah I know, I used to use 2 crt's but now dont have the room to accomadate them both, and am now going crazy only having the one screen. The price of the lcds/vid card is really not a concern, I just dont want to spend more for performance than I am going to take advantage of.

Do you have a link to spec's on the XEN-1510P, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Budget 15's are popping up like spring daisies these days. If you are going text only, you barely care about the feature set on the latest screens.

This guy picked one up for $200!http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=31&threadid=682047

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; In practice, there is.
