Best refresh under flourecent lights?

OK, so I know that low refresh rates cause eye pain. I know that 60Hz is bad in the U.S. for monitors under flourecent lighting as well, because the monitor is flashing nearly the same frequency as the lights. I also know that relatively speaking, higher frequencies cause less eye fatigue.

So the question is, which is better, 85Hz or 90Hz. I would assume 90Hz, except that it's exactly 1.5x the rate at which the lights flicker...so is 85Hz better.

I would think this depends on the person. For me if I turn up the refresh too high it bothers my eyes. I generally do 85Hz, but 75 Hz is fine. 100Hz bothers me.

Thanks. Hey, if you're in a European standard country, 100Hz is 2x50, so the there could be "flash" caused by the lights flashing ever other cycle of the monitor, causing eyestrain. That's what I was thinking might be the case in the U.S. using 90Hz, the monitor being synchronized with the lights every 3rd power cycle.

My only options appear to be 70Hz, 85Hz, and 90Hz.

Just do what doesn't bother you and stay away from 60Hz. I think that's a safe bet.

from 6+ years in front of lots of moniterz I've found 75hz to be the bestest for eyes at any light conditions

LOL, my last monitor didn't support 75Hz, it supported 70, 85, and 90Hz. It was programed that way (pnp monitor) and I didn't feel like making a custom driver.

My current monitor does support 75Hz, and that's exactly where it's been. Why did I change monitors?
1.) This one is black
2.) I can't sell this one, so I might as well use it.
