Best security procedures (online security)

First, sorry if I placed this into the wrong category; Second, I'm writing this because I'm quite inexperienced in this area and would like someone to at least post some links to articles on another website... My query is: what are the best precautions to take online? Password managers, antivirus, VPNs, data encryption, virtual keyboards, etc. I know if I could add a login delay on sites I frequent that would help greatly in case of a bruteforce attack, but that doesn't seem to be an option (why, I don't know)... So please, educate me if you can, links, recommendations, all are welcome.

And one important question: what is the best kind of password? I've read that a simple sentence is best, using spaces(special characters), that way it would take a VERY long time for a bruteforce attack to succeed, including a login-delay; also, how do I use password managers effectively?

The best thing to avoid anything online to is stay offline. lol. Otherwise there is no 1 program that will save you. You can have the most secure password in the world, but if the gets hacked on their end, or they do stupid stuff like store plain text passwords, your super long password is useless.

Try to stay away from pirated software though, that's one of the biggest ways they get viruses out there. If you want porn, pay for it from a decent site. free porn a lot of times comes with other free stuff you don't want. Run a spyware/malware program, what is the best is a whole different topic that will get 100 different answers.

It's like real life and asking how can I avoid being robbed or getting sick. You can't unless you never leave your house. Going online has risks.

If you think about all this stuff too much you will drive yourself crazy, that being said, there are simple ways to protect yourself online.

Antivirus is the fist simple one, pick one that suits your needs, I and everyone else could go on all day explaning which one is best but only you can decide which one suits your needs.

VPN? I would avoid that one, unless you are really concious about privacy and security then you could just be wasting your money although they are handy for if your on public networks.

Data encryption? Truecrypt is a great program that's easy to use, store what you please with that one LOL.

If you want to increase your password strength there are ways of remembering long passwords that are hard to crack, for example try using a sentence "Thedogjumpedoverthefence." or another great way, think of a sentence "Today I am a computer geek" now take the first letter from each word "Tiaacg." you get the point.
