I am planning on building a PC in the future when prices come back down and stock is in a good position again, but I am a bit confused on storage. I have never worked with M.2 drives at all and want to have an entirely M.2 storage solution for my build.

I plan on using the MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon but I am not sure about the two M.2 slots and what the difference is between m and m+b and what works with each slot on the board. I would like to either do a two terabyte drive or one 250gb boot drive and a 1tb storage drive. What are my best options for affordability and compatibility ?

Solution
I’d have to look up the board but most run one slot at PCIe 4.0 and the other othrough the SATA at 3.0.

I have the Asus TUF x570 with a Sabrent 4.0 and at this point don’t wast your money on the 4.0 M2 SSD’s unless you get good pricing.

Yes they are fast in synthetic benchmarks but real world load times vary little between 4.0, 3.0 and SATA.
