Best Virtual Machine Software for W10

Looking to run win7 and some form of linux on a Virtual Machine.
ALSO was considering installing them on my external HDD. Is this possible?

I use VirtualBox. Works just the same between Win 7, 8.1, and 10.
Yes, you can have the VM living on an external drive. Might be a bit slow, but it will work.

VMware Player. (I hate Virtualbox since it somehow toasted my Mint install.) And you can install on an external drive alright. Just don't use the default disk config.

Interestingly, one of my VirtBox VM's is LinuxMint. Works perfectly.

Put a VM on a flash drive? Probably.

I figured if raspberry's use a sd card for a hd (i think) then why not a flash ... ive been given a resounding no in the past but im going to try.
