I currently have 4GB of RAM (2 x 2GB) and want to add 4 more. Is it better to add two more 2GB sticks or should I replace my current 2 x 2GB sticks with 2 x 4GB sticks

Best to get a 2x4GB set as even if you bought an identical 2x2GB set there's no guarantee it will play with your old set. Then can try adding the 2x2GB set as a bonus, else use it in another rig or sell it to recoup some of your expenditure on the 2x4GB set

Is this still true even if the 2x2GB are the exact same model as the current.

first rule of ram speed > size

get faster ram not more gigabytes as long as you have at least 4 gb of ram and always run it in dual channel

if you have ddr2 then get 4 sticks of 2 gb 800 MHz ram

if you have ddr3 get 2 sticks of 4 gb 1600 MHz ram (if your motherboard supports faster than this speed I would recommend that speed instead. aka 1866, 2133, 2400, 2666 etc...)

if they are the same model they will play with the current but like I said if upgrading go for speed not capacity. unless you are video editing you will not see a benefit for more than 4 gb ram in windows 7.
