Best way to add thermal paste?

Hello,

What is the best way to apply thermal paste to your CPU.
Just a small drop?
Do I need to spread it before putting the heatsink on?
Im not sure.

I just use a small pee size blob in the middle of the CPU thermal plate. Tighten the hold down screws evenly corner to corner till finger tight.
TIM should be used sparingly as it only needs to fill the tiniest of voids.
