I am upgrading my gpu from one that takes a 6pin and an 8pin to 2x8pin and I don't have another 8pin power connector. What would be the most efficient way to do this? I don't mind buying something that costs 5-15 bucks on newegg so please recommend a connector or converter.

Using 6-pin to 8-pin adapters will work but is definitely not advisable as it could cause instability of the Video Card. You might want to upgrade your PSU instead so that you won't have anything to worry about.

You need to mention your PSU model with its complete specifications. It's all about how much power can be drawn from a rail without smoking out the PSU lol. If it can afford it then you can plug in a connector and do it. :)

Sorry mate but you need to be more specific imo, like of Corsair, Antec, Coolermaster, Thermaltake, OCZ etc etc. Which one?

Since after knowing the company make we would be able to determine whether it can truly deliver around 800W true power or not. Local made PSUs most of the times have misleading projected wattage with what they actually deliver.
