Ok so I'm at a dilemma here, next week I have a chance to get a new gpu, upgrading from a gtx1070.
Here are my options, I can buy an rtx 4060ti at roughly $480 here with some money to spare which also allows me to get 32gb ram and a 2tb ssd.
2nd option, I can get a used rtx 3080 10gb from a friend for $450 but I will need a new case for it and/or new psu. (my current psu is a 750w fsp hydro g gold)

Some of the folks I talked to said to don't pass up on the 3080 but if I do that, I won't be able to afford the new ram and ssd. it will instead force me to get a new case and psu. At $180 I could get the 32gb ram plus 2tb ssd, or a new case and psu at the same price. They also mentioned that I could just stick with my 16gb ram for now, and my 750w psu since my cpu is just an i5 11400.

Just need some great opinions on this, THANKS!

If it were me, I'd get the 4060 Ti. If I went by https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4060-ti-founders-edition/32.html , while sure the 3080 can do about 25% better average in 1080p and 32% better in 1440p, the amount of work you'd have to do to get it installed, the fact it's used, and some of the features of the 4060 Ti (like say, DLSS3) may make up for some of the lack of performance would make the 4060 Ti better in terms of effort.

Plus you can get the other upgrades that you want.

This is like choosing between two farts, which one smells and sounds better.

On the one hand, you get the worst GPU ever released by Nvidia for the last 8 years.

On the other, you get a used GPU (probably formerly used for mining).

Absolutely horrible deals.

If I were you, I would reject both. I would get an RX 6800, buy a 2*8GB RAM (add the new sticks on top of the old ones to get 32GB) and a 2TB SSD.

The other option to save money. Check out the rx 6750xt. More vram than the 4060ti, performance from what I’ve seen is pretty well on par. Could also look at the 6700xt which would be close as well and perhaps cheaper still.

Alternatively consider the rx 6800 or 6800xt.

The amd cards won’t be as good at ray tracing as nvidia but have a better bang for buck in my opinion.

Edit: poster above beat me to it. Recently saw the 6750xt on Newegg for 359. I think the 6700xt was 329.

Get the new one.

Unless you really like the 3080, the new one gives you protections the used one does not, especially if it fails.
