Had a great weekend moneywise. As background, I'd worked up to about
100g total between my 53 Paladin and 6 Mage (auction house mule)
through questing and auctioning off green and the rare blue items my
Paladin found.
On Saturday I saw on the Ironforge trade channel someone offering the
Epic-class Axe of the Deep Woods
(<URL:http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=811>) for 90g. I took
the risk of spending almost all my money because I knew there was a
good chance I could sell it for much more. And indeed, I made a profit
of more than 50g through auction.
Later on Saturday, I finally found my first Epic-class random world
drop, the Warden Staff
(<URL:http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=943>), from an undead
in Sorrow Hill in the Western Plaguelands. Time to celebrate! But, now
I'm wondering what's the best way to sell it.
I put the Axe of the Deep Woods on sale late Saturday because,
frankly, I needed the money back fast. That said, I normally put up
items for auctions on Friday evenings as Saturday mornings are the
busiest times for the game. The rule of thumb I've heard about
auctions is that green items should get a buyout (I generally do 150%
of the initial bid), but that blue items shouldn't in order to let the
price run up. I wonder, though, if purple items should again get some
buyout, if a ridiculously-high one, so the level 60 player with more
money than he knows what to do with and needing a weapon fast before
going raiding in Molten Core or Stratholme or Scholomance can get it
immediately. So, I wonder: When I put the Warden Staff for sale on
auction Friday (assuming I don't sell it on the trade channel ahead of
time), should I put in a buyout? If so, how much? Another Warden Staff
was on auction for 800g minimum bid and 1100g buyout, but that's
hardly a realistic benchmark to use.
