Best way to set up new modem in the house for 5 metres away from wall socket.

I'm moving over to the NBN (FTTN) on Monday & have just received a new modem. My wall plug is about 5 metres away from my computer (No i'm not moving my computer & I don't want to set it up wireless at the moment). I run an Ethernet cable from the modem to the computer.
So my question is?
Which end of the line should I place the modem? Close to the socket & run a longer Ethernet?
Or
Run a longer line to the modem & a short Ethernet?

It probably doesn't matter that much. But my suggestions would be to use a long ethernet cable because it's better shielded than the phone cable.
