I hope that in business sense this is diversification of portfolio by Bethesda and not just siphoning from popular brand :\ Diversification would imply it will at least not be same as some other Bethesda game, if not staying true to first game.

Have you played the original Fallout games?

Fallout 3 was crap compared to them.
Bad writing/storytelling, unbelievable characters, tiny world, 100% linear main story line, boring quests, black&white morality, one of the worst combat systems I've ever seen, the SPECIAL character system (which was one of the best ever devised) turned to shit...

Fallout1&2 and their predecessor Wasteland were milestones of the RPG genre. Fallout 3 was just Oblivion with guns.

GAMES ARE MEANT TO BE FUN. Who gives a flying fuck compared to the other games? They win Game of the Year 2008, and rightfully so.

It's for this reason why the possibility of a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 game excited many PC gamers and why so many were saddened when GSC shuttered its doors earlier this year.

It looks like GSC isn't completely closed yet, but it does look as if there game making days are over and are trying to live off of the stalker series to me...

I own all of the stalker games from them, and I have yet to play the 3rd one but something tells me that the 4th is going to be something that I won't rush out and buy.

also, it looks like the new studio made up of old GSC employees wanted to get the rights to STALKER 2, but couldn't fork over the cash like Bethesda did.

Via: http://www.facebook.com/officialstalker?ref=stream

"To be clear the exact requirements for the owner of GSC to sell the IP rights of the Stalker franchise are as follows: Shares in the company purchasing the rights. The right to choose the development team that will work on the title. And last but not least a very high finacial sum. All those are the reasons (and a few more, but those are the outlined reasons) why a previous agreement between Vostok Games and GSC could not be met."

Have all the stalkers and im happy it was bethesta who got the license. They have experience with open world type game play from the Fallout 3 and Skyrim for instance, i really hope they manage to get the Stalker feeling into the game if they make a new one. Fallout 3 or skyrim isnt "depressive" enough =)

I really disagree, Fallout 1 and 2 were great, but so were Fallout 3 and New Vegas. If someone dislike the shooter-grene i can understand that Fallout 3 and FO:Nw will be less entertaining but that don't mean everyone think so - Far from it!

Fallout 3 and Fo:NW in 3d would not have been as entertaining for most people if you made choices and the chars would do it turn based like the Fo1 or Fo2 (Not counting tactics), I think its rather more living now in 3D as YOU take place in the world. Not watching it from above and have years to think of what to do each turn while in combat. (Think the Fo3 and Fo:Nw were to easy but that another matter).

Game of the year is such an overrated statement based more on popularity than game quality nowaday. It only means that a huge bunch of dumb asses don't know what is good or bad.

I am sorry, but molo9000 is right on it, Fallout 3 is indead morrowind with guns unlike the first fallout games that were TURN BASED RPGs.

We have a console fan here... if you were a real Fallout fan, you will know he is right. Make yourself a flower and go try Fallout 1 and 2 before talking.

Fallout 1&2 were great, some of my favourite's, however, isometric turn based RPG's are very much a niche market and i'm pretty sure would not sell (well) in today's console markets. Fallout 3 was developed to broaden the audience and thus raise more money, it's just business. They could have made a classic fallout game to appease the core fans but it would severely impacted their profit margins.

The game industry is a business, it doesn't matter what the minority think unfortunately.

I had hoped that FO3 would play like Planescape Torment or Icewind Dale and Bethesda's FO3 would just be another game with a different title... well, you can dream.

I like STALKER (bugs aside) better than FO3 (which is buggy as well). If STALKER 2 will play like FO3/Skyrim, I rather have them not make it.

Stalker is one of my favorite games even if they speak russian or polish or somfin else, i bought metro hearing it was like stalker but it had no freedom. I would like to see a good heavy stalker game. Anomalies and all! i heavily enjoyed all the stalker games, missions indoor gave you the whole cooridor scripted feel and outdoors had alot of unique events! that game was so awesome for its day. No games monsters have terrified me more than STALKER's the gas mask crawling freaks jumping out of you! all the crazy packs of dogs and all sortsa crazy creatures and then theres anomalies to worry about. Stalker is a great game if bethesda keeps the engine cleans up the code and incorporates some mods i see no reason it cant be a awesome new title. Stalker is missin a few things, some women, some more story and well thats about it. if they make the story long and have plenty of side quest and stuff to explore id root for bethesda.

I please god no!

One of the things I loved about stalker was that it was made on a custom engine, built by those pesky Russians. It wasnt perfect, but it felt "different" and I loved the series!

Making a STALKER game on bethsoft's Xengine won't feel right, it might be okay, but it would probably feel like a total conversion of Fallout 3 or New Vegas.

I love the STALKER series! I was bummed when I heard the news that GSC was going under.

I like most Bethesda games, but I'm worried they might not stat true to the formula, or that if they release a new STALKER it won't have the same vibe. Either way this is good news though, at least now there is still a solid chance for another STALKER game :) One of my favorite games of all time.

World's with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Though the games were riddled with technical issues

im glad to see stalker surviving. maybe bethesda can bring some new life to stalker.
as for technical issues, gamers will feel right at home :)

As a fan of the series I do not like this one bit. Bethesda has their methods of making games and there is nothing wrong with that. But that method doesn't fit S.T.A.L.K.E.R. at all. I'd rather just let the series rest in peace and just remember it fondly for what it was.

Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas were Amazing.

On the other hand, I tried to get into Oblivion and Skyrim, Several Times Each, and they truly absolutely were not very good games.

I don't understand it myself, how one could like the Fallout series but not the Oblivion series, and vice-versa. One thing for certain - they are far from just being re-skins of each other, very far.

I can sit someone down and demonstrate what makes one series far and above the other, but who has the time.

The final product would come down to which team in Bethesda ends up with it, that's my take on it.

Isn't S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Call of Pripyat being the sequel of Shadow of Chernobyl so wouldn't they be making (I dunno*) S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 4 if you want to count the prequel.

Well another thought CoP was awesome I think for the price it had a lot of "re-playability".
