NOTE: Whatever processor I get, I will be overclocking to the max.

I'm going to be purchasing new computer parts soon, I was planning on going with...

AMD FX-6300 and
GTX 750 Ti FTW

The 6300 goes for about $110 and i'm curious if there's a better processor for somewhere around $110. I'm willing to go up to about $130, but I really don't want to go past.

Oh, if you name a processor it would be GREATLY appreciated if you can list a GPU to go with it for a little under $150 that is better than the 750 Ti, thanks!

I'd agree. If you opt for the i3, you can always upgrade to an i5 or i7 later, thus extending the usefulness of your rig. If you just get the fx6300, your only upgrade is an fx8320/8350 and that really isn't worth it.

Also, you can get a solid motherboard for under 80 dollars, whereas a motherboard worth getting for the fx series is usually 90+. You could go the cheap route, but if you have a cpu able to overclock, you should get a motherboard capable of delivering. The i3/i5/i7 motherboards using the h97 or b85 chipset don't overclock, but you don't need an overclock to get good performance from the stock speed Cpu's.

If I was buying a new cpu/motherboard/video card with that budget, I'd go for this:

PCPartPicker part...

Highly recommending the i3 4170.

-Performs better than the FX 6300 in every single video game.
-Has 4 virtual cores and has a much better per core power.
-i3 4170 almost does as good as the FX 8320.
-FX series use ancient architecture.

I would go with a good B85 or H97 motherboard and an i5 4440/4460 processor. There's no need to overclock a processor unless you're going for high benchmark scores. If time was money then overclocking would be great for rendering applications, but that would be for a higher pricepoint, because the processor is only a small part of that type of work anyways.

All the best, regardless what you choose!

@KKAW, I've done some research and the FX seems to perform SLIGHTLY better with the 750 Ti on a lot of games, are you saying it performs better with maybe a different graphics card? I also don't know what GPU to go with for under $150... /:

I don't know where you are getting your sources from but i3 4170 seriously outperforms the FX 6300

Okay,

To me this is an EASY answer.

The Intel Core I3 4170 at $120

Mantle was revolutionary as it allowed slower AMD chips to catch up to their Intel counter parts by utilizing more cores.

The expectation was that DX12 would increase this lead even more.

Not so....
Look at the first DX12 benchmarks on an AMD Game Ashes of the Singularity.

http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/DX12-GPU-and-CPU-Performance-Tested-Ashes-Singularity-Benchmark/Results-Avera

A core I3 4330 (which is lower clocked than a 4170) easily beats out a FX8370.

Keep in mind that unless you have anything stronger than a GTX 960 or a R9 380 it is really not going to matter what CPU you have. They will all pretty much perform the same.

That is proven in this article:

And is proven in this video: FX6300 Stock vs FX6300 Overclocked @ 4.8GHz with a GTX760

Unless you overclock your FX 6350 or FX 6300 to 4.0 Ghz+ the i3 4170 is the best option to go with. Also if you want to overclock you need to get a better motherobard and a better cooler which means the i3 4170 is the cooler and cheaper option.

If I was buying a new cpu/motherboard/video card with that budget, I'd go for this:
