BF1 stutter and high CPU usage with an i7 and GTX 1080

Hi

I have a i7 4790K (stock), 4x4GB RAM, MSI GTX 1080 8Gb (stock) and while playing battlefield 4 in the big city map and ballroom blitz i m getting stutter when the frames are in the 60-70-80s but is smooth when its at 100+fps (i have gysnc by the way). When i'm in the the 70fps i can see the CPU across all cores and threads is at 80-90% usage with one core now and then going 100% and the stutter/choppiness starts but no tearing. Also when this happens the GPU is not getting to 99% usage as its like 60-80% on these two maps while on the other maps the GPU is at 99%.

Is my CPU actually bottle necking or is it the games fault. I'm really worries my CPU isn't powerful enough to keep up with the GPU running high-ultra 1440p.

Is the new skylake having this issue as well??

Thanks!

Its doing this to everyone, google it lots of people complaining about this. I have an AMD FX cpu with a similar problem 90-100% usage on all cores and about 70-80% gpu usage. DICE knows about the issue and said they are working on fixing it, today's patch seems to have helped slightly. I get dips down into the low 50s on a mix of ultra and high settings with a 1060, especially on 64player servers when there are lots of explosions and stuff going on.

I tried it, set it to 1 and it did nothing for me but our hardware is also quite different so I its worth a shot I have heard some people say it helps. The biggest improvement for me was when I switched to borderless windowed mode, for whatever reason cpu usage dropped by an average of about 5 % from what I can tell, not much but it helped. Also deleting geforce experience not the driver just geforce experience which will disable shadowplay completely, may help I have read that helps for some people I am yet to try it.

Is it because I'm on Windows 7 as windows 10 has direct 12. I still don't really want to use windows 10, just the amount of incompatibly issues people are having and just general annoying bugs. Well one of the major ones is the 100% disk usage issue , my dads still got this problem and no fix online has helped.

Would windows 10 even help

I have had no incompatibility issues or bugs at all in windows 10 at least for my gaming pc which is the only machine I have win 10 on at the moment. I have heard about the 100% disc usage bug but never seen it for myself, but I have never used win 10 with a hard drive I dont think that disc usage bug affects SSDs. But anyways I dont use dx12 in bf1, its poorly implemented and results in worse performance than dx11 especially when it comes to min fps. Look up benchmarks for dx12 in bf1, not very impressive at least until dice hopefully fixes it.

Well I played some today and I was getting 90-100% CPU and GPU stuck at 60%! I was getting 60-100 fps but it certainly was not stable.

High usage stutter in amien and blitz...

Is my CPU really not at fault, have they just made a game that hogs way to many resources

I doubt it would perform any better on a i7 5960x if thats what your asking. You have one of the best cpu's you can buy so even if the cpu is at fault there is not much you can do about it. Try campaign if you stay above 100fps the whole time its the game. The game runs great for me in campign I still get the same high cpu usage but I stay over 60fps all the time. If you are still getting low fps in campaign, the best I can say is go back to where you read you should change pre rendered frames and see if they have any other suggestions. Nothing I have tried has solved the problem in multiplayer as of yet.

Hi. I had problems with this made a cfg file in my bf1 folder and locked the fps to 60fps... worked for me. I had problems with refresh rate. So put vsync on. Runs like a dream.. had terrible problems on amiens - now works great

So you ended up fixing it by just swapping the CPU to a 6800k? 🙁

I'm having the same problem, CPU usage around 95-100% causing GPU usage to drop downwards causing huge FPS drops.
But the odd thing is... Game runs fine for me on a Clean OS install. If I reinstall the GPU drivers... either upgrade or downgrade or just reinstall... the problem happens. Makes no sense at all, benchmarks run fine, campaign even runs fine...

i7 6700k @4.0
EVGA 1080 FTW
16GB Gskill tridentZA
Samsung SSD

So we have similar specs :/

Ye actually I have a 6800K now which is a 6 core CPU with 12 threads.

Well I am also on Windows 10 now so I do not know if that helps but I have set it to only use DirectX 11.

My CPU is overclocked thou across all cores from 3.4GHZ to 4.0GHZ, SCAN Computer did it for me also including the part install of the CPU into the MOBO and its water cooler.

I get a smooth Gsynced 82-110 fps ultra at 1440p with 99% usage of the GPU and around 40-60℅ CPU usage.

Also to compare I turned off the overclocked and my CPU was at 80%. With the GPU at 90-99% usage.

Your CPU is 4 cores 8-threads and is at 4.0GHZ and I have heard it's struggles. I think most quad cores can't handle the game higher than 60fps

I get a bit of connection lag but if I turn of the connection icons I don't even realise any issue is happening.

Game runs smooth no issues now which is nice.

Oh also I have 2x8GB DDR4 RAM so I have two slots left if I ever need some more somehow.

Regards

Moving from quad cores on my old 3770k to a hex core 6850k was a giant step forward in BF1 multiplayer. I compare it to my reaction going from 1080 to 1440 or from 60 hz to 144 hz and experiencing my GSYNC monitor for the first time. You simply think your game is running fine until you actually SEE your game running smoothly. Simply night and day in multiplayer, astonishing.
