Hello people i wanted to share my toughts and ask for some help on my situation.

i don't want to create another ("dual core ***") thread but i just want to tell all my toughts and get some help :)

So first of all my pc specs:

X6800 @ 3.20 ghz (oc) (now i rolled back to 2.93 ghz (stock speed) to try and look if it's any better))
GTX 550 ti oc @ 940mhz (oc)
2 X 2 gb ddr2 ram 800mhz (dual chanell)
msi p6n platinium mobo
Win7 64bit

Well first of all i want to tell that on everything low 1280X1024 res i'm dropping to 25 fps in bf3 wich is choppy ( i know the cpu is old ) but before my 8800gtx died on me the game was running good and i didn't even notice any problems that would make me think gameplay is choppy !

Maybe new patches cause the problems?

i know most of you will say buy i5 2500k new mobo and new rams? (question : does ddr2 rams work with new sockets and cpus?) but I don't want to upgrade my pc and spend my money because soon I will get a new gaming laptop ( i travel alot with my team so i need a laptop)

yes my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu but my main question :
is there any fixes i could do to make my ''old beast '' to run better?
is there any poblems that you know for my specific components ? (like i know that x6800 don't go past 380mhz fsb when you're overclocking it)
if not should i upgrade to new cpu for 775 socket?
i heard that q6600 has a lot of potential oc'ing capabilities to 3.5ghz on air

you could try increasing the gfx demand but really your at the limit of what your cpu can do... basically you want to try and find a 98gt or 250gts cheap and swap it for your current card. that way you will balance the system instead of it being gfx heavy...
even though your cpu will oc nicley it wont be enough to cope with the gfx card so i suggest you put bf3 away till you have a better cpu or get a lower spec gfx card... the funny thing is on a balanced pc of lower spec your games will give more fps and be smoother.

a q6600 or better. the best bang for buck is the q8300 or q8400 but to be honest any cpu bought for that board would be a waste of money... so check ebay and see if you can find a second hand 1 for a cheap price.
if you do go on ebay then make sure you dont buy a q8200 or anything else with a locked multiplyer.
