I got my 7900GTX 512 in yesterday (BFG also), and my computer has been randomly freezing since I put it in. I can't figure out what is causing the lock ups. Computer was running fine before I stuck this card in there. Oh well, guess i'll trouble shoot some more when I get off work.

Sorry to hear that.

You probably already know this but it could be the drivers, a weak PSU, overheating or a strange combination of a number of factors.

What kind of PSU do you have?

Are you getting BSODs?

What I am about to suggest is quite unorthodox but it has worked for me in the past, so please hear me out 🙂

If I get hardware which is apparently causing crashes or not working in a particular operating system I usually try another one.

You might want to give Linux or BSD a try and see if the card still causes problems.

The Knoppix Live CD is particularly helpful in diagnosing problems, fixing broken machines, recovering data, etc

http://www.kernel.org/pub/dist/knoppix/KNOPPIX_V4.0.2CD-2005-09-23-EN.iso

You might want to check it out.

It boots from your optical drive and runs entirely from the CD or DVD so it doesn't need to be installed.

If the system crashes under Knoppix then you will know with almost absolute certainty it is the hardware and not a software / windows problem.

If it doesn't crash then most likely it is a bad driver, windows itself or something else screwy.

There is an nVidia Linux driver btw and it even supports SLI :-D

If you go over to newegg and read the reviews on this mobo, you'll see that many people have had various issues with this board. Maybe you can get in touch with the manufacturer and work a deal to get a replacement...

Don't be too hasty though, maybe you missed something.

You don't have the board optimized for sli, either in the bios, or when at desktop, you right click..... go in to see your graphics card settings, there's a spot to set up for sli, make sure thats not selected, and also in "advanced", where you set up antialiasing and such, there's another option for dual gpu something or other...... maybe thats checked ?

My 7800 GT also has artifacting problems, haven't tried to RMA it yet.

What do you guys mean by "arifacting problems"?. I have a BFG 7800 gt oc. I haven't tried it out yet. Now i'm kinda worried. One of the guys complained that the card ran pretty hot. What is the norm for a vid card like ours?

You can see in the pic and Video coming soon. The Textures are curropt and showing in the rong places as I move around. For example, the texture for the trees goes where the rocks are, and there are black paches on the houses.

What do program do you use to find out how your vid card is running? Everest?

Riva tuner. Here is a video of the artifacting. You can see the wall changing. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7842769824831276062

Thanks I got it.

Wish I would have read this a few days ago. I have a gt6800 OC card and just recently when Windows boots up the blue light on the card dims and the fan slows down about 50%. Didn't think anything of it at first. But then I started noticing dropped frames is the games I normally play. It's as if the card was clocking down. So I called BFG, waited for 2 hours on the line to find out that I should ultimately format my HD....WTF? So to humor them, I went ahead and did that. As soon as I downloaded the new drivers and installed them, guess what. The light dims and the fan slows down. Again, slow performance in the games. Couldn't find anything on google so I know that it is not normal. Just hope that I dont have to go through 2-3 different RMA's until they get it right. =)

I'm having the same problem. Games will lock up with a splash of pixels followed by a dark screen that goes to standby. I then need to reboot to get the video back. I can still here the game running over my speakers so it is not a computer lockup.

I ran 3DMark and on the second 3D test I lost my video to the black screen. I also get video bleeding (artifacts?) This normally happens after the computer been on for a while and even the desktop has lines etc screwing up the screen.

I upgraded my PSU
I got the latest drivers, but have not done a MB BIOS update.
I have since ordered a external cooler for the card to see if that will help.

any more advice?

That's odd. I got my bfg 6800GT right at two years ago. It's worked great until recently.

A month or so ago, I started having the same problem. Sometimes playing a game, sometimes just surfing, my monitor would lose feed.

I thought at first it was a heating issue. However, I have added no new components to my system in well over a year. (Course, a fan or something could be going out).

I found out, that if I took the card out and put it back in, I could boot back up and it would work fine.

Perhaps I should rma it.

Actually I was getting artifacts since I owned it. The lost feed started about 6 months ago. I am thinking its a heat issue. I flashed new bios on theMB. I'm not sure how to do it if there are an on the video card. I ordered an external fan for the card, and will see if that helps.

I do not need to removed the card. I just need to hard boot when I loose feed.

I bought a BFG 7900GTXOC from newegg.com several months ago. I was playing CS:S and Steam was running at the time. There were some vertical lines on the monitor and then the video went black. The card never worked after that. I RMA'd the card to BFG via UPS at my own expense. They never admitted to receiving it 'til I got UPS involved. Then they sent me another defective card. BFG is rotten to the core. The card was awesome up until it went bad. Come time to use the BFG warranty you are screwed. Stay away from BFG. If this has happened to anyone else please tell the rest of us about it. IMO, these dirtbags should not be in business.

Really BFG is that bad? One of the reasons I bought BFG is there life time warranty on the graphics card. That sucks. So far I haven't had any problems with my card yet.
