Hi,

Just built my PC 2 weeks ago, been going fine until one day when i was playing counter strike, the PC turned itself off completely and then came back on by itself. I checked all my connections and the temperature of the CPU and it was sat at 45 degrees C, which is cool enough.

Anyway I left it for the night and came back on the next day, playing CS:GO again, and after a few hours the same thing happens again. I thought it might have just been the game so downloaded Battlefield 3 and as soon as I joined a multiplayer game, the PC turned itself off completely. Now on startup, the only thing being powered is the power supply itself, no CPU fan, no GPU fan. Nothing.
my build is:
i5 4670k
EVGA GTX 760
8GB corsair vengeance RAM
1TB WD HD
120GB Samsung SSD
Corsair CX600m PSU
Gigabyte B85-HD3 Motherboard

Thank you for any help in advance.

Solution
if you're sure it's all hooked up correctly then sounds like a bad psu. those units are known to be cheap and unreliable. RMA and get something better.
Had this happen to my brothers PC i just built for him. What I did was update the BIOS on the mobo which can be done very easily by looking up your mobo on a quick Google search. We did this and boom thing was working like a charm! Do a quick check on the big four..... Video Card, Ram, CPU, and motherboard. Try taking everything out and configuring it in different patterns if nothing seems to work after updating your BIOS.

I wasn't aware there was anyway of doing that on the computer, I'm new to this. I was just keeping a check on temps by holding my hand over the fans and checking if it felt hot, the air coming out of the fans was cool so i assume the gfx card was not running hot.

A friend helped me with the build, guess he doesn't know as much as he says..

As i said, the computer is no longer powering up and the only thing that is receiving power is the power supply itself.
no way of monitoring anything until i get the PC working again..

Hi thanks for the response, just wondering if it is the power supply as that is the only thing that is actually working at the minute. the computer worked fine for web browsing etc but as soon as i ran a full screen game which demanded something from the computer, it seemed to turn itself off after a couple of hours, and as i said immediately on Battlefield 3. I'm 80% sure it isn't anything to do with overheating as the CPU temps were 40 degrees C and the GFX card was cold to the touch.. and emitting cold air..

:S

Some strange decisions I'm afraid. In the end though the PC should work fine even though it isn't the most ideal build out there.

does your friend have a spare power supply he could bring over to test it? (if it was my friend i'd make him take his out of his rig if he didn't 😀) it seems the most likely reason. yea the PSU might be getting power, but if it isn't working, nothing else would get power from it.

Thanks a lot, discussed this with a few people and have all come to the same conclusion, bad power supply.
Going to upgrade to a bigger and better one.

Thanks once again everyone.
