Hey,

When you have about 1 or 2 GB of RAM, is it okay to just simply get rid of a page file on your hard drive? Or do programs do a good job of filling that memory? If you still do need a page file, how big? The old rule used to be about 2 x RAM size (2.5 according to PC gamer, but they also said 320 MB max - this was wayyyy back in the day of the 440BX :) ) - has that changed?

Hah, rules of thumbs suck. Swapfiles will still be used, no matter how much physical RAM you have.

I have ran my computer with 512mb without a page file by accident and it seemed to run fine. Even played ut2k3 before I noticed. Some older programs require a page file so its best to keep one. you can do the 2.5 rule if you want but with 512mb or more of memory you can drop that down to 1gb or less. I have mine set at 800 min and max.
