[SOLVED] BIOS and HWInfo disagree on RAM clock speed

Hi all, have an issue with my RAM speed. I have 3000Mhz RAM, and it originally showed 2400 in the BIOS. I changed that, and now it shows 3000 when I boot up.

But running Cinebench R20, HWInfo showed that my clock speed for the RAM was only 1499Mhz.

Is RAM like the CPU, in that it only runs as fast as it has to? IOW, is the 3000Mhz shown in the BIOS the constant speed, or is that just the maximum?

It;s ok. Some programs will simply report the true operating frequency. Advertised 3000 is true 1500 mhz. DDR means Double Data Rate which is 1500 X 2 = 3000 for your occasion

DDR4 is the 4th generation of DDR, dual data rate ram. The Data rate for DDR4 3000 is 1500MHz. So it depends on whether the software reads Data Rate vrs Dual Data Rate as to what you see.

How do I mark the question as solved though? That just does "best answer", and it takes 5 trophies.

I know in the old format, I could mark my question as "solved", or is that not an option anymore?

Best answer = solved 👍
Part of the new system is that 5 vote ups automatically assumes best answer, but you can choose it personally from the trophy. It solves a bunch of issues with some posters deciding to take away your choice by choosing the best answer for you.
