BIOS doesn't see hard drive, win 7 installer does. Can't format it or anything.

So I'm building a desktop for the first time in years and having issues. My hard drive is detected in the "boot order" options, yet when i go into storage under advanced settings in BIOS, it doesn't appear. Then, when I get into the win 7 installer, it can see the drive but I can't install to it because ""Computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk controller is enabled in the computer's bios menu." I took the hard drive out and hooked it up in the family desktop but it doesn't see it in "my computer" or the disk management window. Thoughts?

Hello... Is this a new Hard drive? No previous format or Data on it?
1) what is your SATA controller set at in your BIO's IDE or AHCI ? AHCI will need your MB "ahci/sata" driver installed before Windows will load on it. IDE will not need a driver.
2) as a security feature you must "mark the partition active" in the "Disk management" in a already installed Windows computer... to be seen.

Hi

Install wd datalife guard for window on working PC
See problem hard drive is connected to sata port which is enabled
And sata power supply connector

Check it is seen by bios as you boot up or in bios hard drive section

Then run data lifeguard to test drive it will tell you if working or not

If it is working then partition and format ( long ) in working family PC before moving back to new PC

If it has problems in 2 different PC's it is probably dying even though brand new

Cannot format. If I select new, it comes up with an error code 0x8007045d

It is set to AHCI. When I selected IDE in BIOS, it still didn't detect it. Do I need to select it and restart the computer for it to come up?
