Hi, I have an HP ProBook 4530 laptop. The BIOS is not saving configuration changes. BIOS screen freezes at the save and exit instruction.
This is what I have tried so far, without any success:
  • Hard reset
  • Replaced CMOS battery with a new one
  • Run system diagnostics F2 key, no errors detected in memory or HDD
  • Removed HDD, connected it to another computer via usb, formatted it, made HP_TOOLS fat32 partition. Put HDD disk back on laptop, the HP tools working fine
  • Removed memory stick, place it in next slot, tried again, nothing. Then put it back in same slot, nothing,
  • Tried to reinstall the OS via usb, using F9 boot order option, it recognizes the usb device but after selecting and press ENTER it freezes.

Can you guys please, help out with this. Thanks!

I'd recommend updating to this BIOS version to see if it fixes the problem. Preferably use the bootable USB option. I'm happy to give step by step instructions to you if you are unsure how to do this. Also, make 100% certain that the above is the correct BIOS for your system.
Thank you for your help brother. I have tried updating the BIOS via usb using the Win+B/V keys option, but it doesn't boot to the usb drive, nor it shows any screen or beep sounds. The screen goes black and the fan speeds up. Capslock key blinks continuously, but it gets stuck in that process and the power botton cannot be used to force to power off I have to unplug the adapter.
I'd appreciate any other ideas. Thanks again

Hi, Google a program called Rufus. Run this, and make your USB drive FreeDOS bootable. Now, get the HPQFlash folder (it contains the flash program and the 68SRR BIOS) and copy it into your bootable USB. Restart the PC and go to the boot menu. Choose the USB. You should have to choose your keyboard (I think. If not, do not worry). At the prompt "C:\" type "dir/w" and hit enter. You should see the name of the HPFlash folder now. Type "cd<HPFlash>" where <HPFlash> is the name of the folder, and hit enter. Now, type "dir/w". You should see the HPFlash executable. Type the name of it and hit enter. If you are unsure what one is the executable, type "dir". Here, on the 2nd column it will say EXE, and this file is the executable name you must type in, then press enter.

Bro, no luck with booting into de DOS flash drive. When I select the usb drive in the boot options menu (F9 key) using the keyboard arrows to highlight it. It just freezes there, even the mouse pointer is frozen. I can either, set the Bios to boot from usb because it wont save the changes.
But, your idea was wonderful anyway. Thanks

Boy, I wish it booted into windows. That's why Im trying to boot into usb, to install the OS. It freezes at the hp logo and the BIOS wont save any changes.
Thanks
