Hi, I have Intel Xeon X5460 processor in Asus P5G41T-M LX mobo and I when I start my PC the Bios message says: "To unleash this CPU's full power, please perform Bios update process". Processor seems to work fine, so do you recommend me to update the Bios (I have AMI Bios 1001 and newest is 1101)? If yes, how should I do it?

In the manual - Chapter 2.1.2 tells you how to update the bios. I wouldn't do it in windows - use their dos application. I have bricked an Asus board before using their windows utility(it was still under warranty).

Get the manual and Bios here.

I already downloaded the new Bios file, but I'm afraid to do it - it seems like everything is fine, so I don't wanna risk.

My question is like "is the update crucial?"

Anyways, thanks for your help

Hello,

Every BIOS version is released to solve issues and/or to add support for newer CPUs or RAM. The 1101 BIOS version, along with the earlier 1001 BIOS version, were released to "Improve system stability" (quote from ASUS support page). If you never experienced any issues, don't bother.
