The ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-F GAMING WIFI motherboard is on the way to me, just left to buy cpu now. I was kinda looking at an i7-4700k but I'm unsure about BIOS support, some people say it will work, some say not, so if i get 14th gen cpu is it safe to install it and power it on ?

And as for bios update, I've been watching some videos. I've seen some done without cpu, and some with cpu installed.

As from what i understood, if I need bios update i need BIOS Version 1402 and nothing else ?

there a bios flash back button. read the manual on how to use it

if you going to update the bios. do the latest non-beta

I just built 2 computers with a 14700kf on a Asus Prime Z790-A. It took me a while to figure it out, the computer will boot but any PCI-e lanes that run off the CPU will not work. I was using an old Quadro 600 and thought it was just to old to work so i switched to a P2200 but had the same issue. I ended up moving the GPU to the lowest PCI-e slot and ended up getting video.

Since you have a 14700k your cpu will have a GPU, i would use that and plug your monitor into the motherboard. On another computer download the latest BIOS from Asus and copy it to a USB stick. Boot into the BIOS and do the update from there. Do not try to use the AI suite 3 software to do the update, somehow Asus has broken this and it will tell you you're up to date or say that you have the wronge bios.

Once in bios hit F7 to get to the advanced bios, then go to tools, then use the Asus EZ Flash 3 utility. The first time i got into it it didnt see the USB drive. I just did a quick reboot and when i got back into it it saw the USB drive with the new bios on it.
