everyone says that the new amd 9-series chipset brings support for the new am3+ cpus
i find this troubling because the 9-series are the EXACT same as the old 8-series except with hypertransport 3.1 support instead of only 3.0
now, most motherboards that had 8-series chipsets needed a bios update (if not all?) before you could use am3+ cpus with it. as long as the cpu vrm was capable of outputting 125 watts for these new power hungry processors.... but that's a battle for another thread
my question is: what exactly needed to be updated in the bios software so that am3+ cpus would work with 8 series chipset boards?
is there a list of supported cpus hardcoded into the bios/uefi software and if your cpu isnt on the list it wont allow it? and they had to update the list? is that all? or is there something else that prevented am3+ cpus from working
i want details!
