Bios update for i7-6900k for X99A?

Hello,
For a new workstation computer, I am placing an i-7 6900K on an MSI X99A SLI PLUS motherboard. I have heard that many of these motherboards need to have a BIOS update before they can read the processor. I wanted to know if this was true for this board specifically and if so whether or not I need another processor to update the BIOS or if I can flash it onto the board. Thank you.

It depends on the board's manufacture date. Have you bought the board, or not yet?

If you haven't, you might pick a board that offers CPU-less BIOS updates such as ASUS Flashback.

It is shipping in from Amazon. It should arrive within a few days. How will I be able to tell when it arrives.

When getting it, post here the 4 digits after B in the board's serial number (on the box) - B1xxx.
