Im curently in the process of building my first pc and i currently have an MSI B350 Tomahawk and an AMD Ryzen 5 2600x but i need to do a bios update. Would the cpu i need to do the bios update have to be a first gen ryzen or will any am4 socket cpu do?

Most early 1000 series Ryzen motherboards will fail to recognize a 2000 series CPU. If you put that CPU into the motherboard and it is not able to recognize it then you cannot flash the BIOS.

I highly doubt it will work, and you will need a 1000 series CPU to flash the motherboard.

Users have found out that "ryzen 2000 series ready" meant the motherboard had a BIOS version compatible with the 2400G and 2200G that were released in February but not those released in April such as the 2600X needed a BIOS update to work.

Since motherboards are usually released with the latest BIOS version available at the time, it may not need a BIOS update depending on when it was manufactured.
