How often are BIOS updates released and how do I know if I need one ?

That depends on the chipset maker and the motherboard manufacturer. If there's a need to address a vulnerability or compatibility issue, then that's when a BIOS update is released. You need to check with your motherboard manufacturer's support site to see if your motherboard is pending a BIOS update.

1. RAM is not 100% compatible and runs @ a lower speed than promised
2. New CPU not compatible with your existing BIOS
3. Bugfixes /better compatibility of devices plugged in
4. Security vulnerabilities
5. System unstable
