Biostar g31 m7 te wrong cpu fsb

biostar g31 m7 te core duo with fsb of 1060 so stock fsb should be 266 but bios shows 133 and will only change by o/c so cpu is running at half speed any suggestions thanks

You may need to flash the Bios with updates. I had a board (different make) that would not detect the correct clock for the RAM. I suspect it could happen with the CPU too.

What CPU is it. Some of the wolfdales that run with half multipliers dont display properly. For exampl i have an e7200 it runs at 2.53ghz with a 1066 fsb. So thats 266x9.5 for 2.53.

That chip is in a cheap foxconn board. By default the board always wants to run it at 266x9 for 2.4 or 133x9 for 1.2. The only way i have been able to solve this was to set the multiplier and FSB manully in the bios.

Ase Price suggested i would update the bios that may help. You might have to do what i did and just set the bios manually.

Another quick test you can do is to download coretemp. Its free it shows the temp and the frequency of the CPU. I would expect the chip to run at 266x6 for 1.6 while at idle. Then open a cpu heavy program the chip should ramp up to full speed.

Thermal monitoring can lower the FSB or the multiplier to avoide overheatings so also check the temps. If something is wrong with the heatsink and fan the chip might be dropping the fsb to control the heat.

first flash with the older version - G31GM922.BSS
and then with the newer version - G31GM201.BSS

flashed bios same problem tried core duo quad still at half speed tried pentium d with 800fsb wouldnt even post

I have the same board, just got a Q6600 quad core processor for it for $14 on ebay!! Came looking like new!! Have never been able to figure out any kind of overclocking on this motherboard. Am running a 512mb 9500GT EVGA Video card with it. Havn't tried the new CPU yet! Just wondering if you ever figured out how to overclock the board correctly so I have some clue when I get it running. Thanks!

How do I raise the FSB? I don't see any way to in the BIOS. Thanks for your reply though
