So I went to play Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and went into a multiplayer game and it took 2 minutes for the map to load! The loading screen said "Awaiting Textures". How can I fix this?

I have an SSD, Intel i3-4330, and an AMD R9 280x

I recently updated to the Windows 10 technical preview from Windows 8.1, Black Ops 2 worked fine before this. I don't know if this has something to do with Windows 10. Thank you!

Solution
There is something to check in your BIOS. There are two settings:

1. Initiate Graphic Adapter [PEG], the default is PEG, just make sure it is PEG

2. IGD Multi-Monitor [Disabled], the default is Disabled, just make sure it is.

These are stretching it.

I'm starting to think it might be Windows 10. Did this problem start immediately after moving to Windows 10?

No, it is the normal maps.

Edit: It also freezes during awaiting textures and the fps drops to 0 using the in-game fps counter

When was the last time you played it? There is a chance that maybe an update came through since the last time you played it and some / all textures had to be unpacked. I've seen this with a few games on STEAM in the past.

I'm playing it right now :ange:

The game is up to date

I meant when was the last time you played it before this behavior began.

I wanna say about three days ago

Is this an option on PC? I don't see it in the options menu anywhere.

if the above is no help...

try stopping then disabling shadow copy in the services. (creates restor points and other things that arnt generally needed on a gaming build).
if it works loading times and install times should dramatically improve.
if it doesnt just re-enable it back to manual and restart it.

also if the game has the option for shader warming and its enabled try turning it off.

Disabling shadow copy didn't help

I did a little research and it turns out that shader warming IS the problem... but there's no option tot urn it off. Is there any way to manually disable it?

PC already comes default with HD texture pack installed.

I found a few forum threads with people asking the same thing. No one seemed to have an answer though. Lot's of theories about it being an AMD problem (CPU and GPU), but no one seems to have a solution.

It seems extreme, but if it continues you could delete the local game content (via STEAM game properties) and then re-install it. Seems drastic, but you never know.

I've got nothing to lose
I'll update with the results!

And it also seems weird to me that it worked fine not too long ago and it suddenly stops working? I think that's interesting.

Yes that is weird, but we are talking about PC gaming, we should all be familiar with weird. Every computer is it's own ecosystem. There are an infinite number of hardware / software combinations. One small change that you would't think would have anything to do with a given problem could be it.

This could be make a case for system restore. Especially something that seems to only affect one obscure thing.

Reinstalling game didn't help. I will try system restore tomorrow!

Umm actually since I had to install Windows 10 clean I have no system restore points. So I could reinstall Windows, but I don't want to go to that much trouble.

However, I did remember this. I recently updated the firmware on my SSD (which Black Ops 2 is installed on). Do you think that could have something to do with it?

Edit: I am going to delete BO2 (again) and reinstall it on my hard drive and see if that helps at all.

Quite honestly, it should load the fastest from your SSD. As for firmware change, what SSD model do you have?

Silicon Power S70 and I know it should load fastest but at this point I don't know what else to try
