Black screen during ATI catalyst installation

Hello, i own an acer aspire 5741G and i experience the following problem; Everytime i try to install ATI catalyst, i get a blackscreen during the installation. Nothing works until i force-close my laptop by pressing the power button. When i turn on the laptop again, it seems like nothing happened.
Please note that i tried it on clean boot after installing all windows 7 updates.
Also, on device manager, my graphics card seems to be recognized from the system ( ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5000 series)
To sum up, my system recognized my graphics chip but i cannot install ATI catalyst application even if i download it from acer drivers site.
And here are my questions:
1) What is happening?
2)Is it critical for me to install Catalyst since there is no actual problem?
3) Is my graphics chip working properly?

Usually mine will black screen for a minute or so while catalyst is changing drivers around, it usually comes back if you let it though. How long did you wait before the hard boot?

I waited about 5 minutes to be honest. I know that during catalyst installation this screen thing might happen, but i think in my occasion, it is just taking too long
