I moved my computer yesterday and when I plugged everything back in I had the Black Screen of Death. After the windows start screen (before the password screen) the video would disappear and the screen would be black. The monitor still had some sort of signal since the 'on' light was solid and not blinking but the screen was black.
After some searching looking for answers (with my phone) I restarted and enabled low resolution mode. This allowed me to get to my desktop (safe mode did not). I messed around with the resolutions. If I set it to anything higher than 1280x800 the screen goes black until the computer auto reverts back to the previous resolution.
I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling my video drivers (R9 290 card), tried the second of the two DVI plugs in the video card (both work the same), changing the PCIe slot the video card is in and tried a different DVI cable (brand new). Nothing seems to work. I have not tried the DVI plug in the motherboard since the drivers are not installed to see if that would work better.
"Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution" says that 1920x1080 is the recommended resolution for my screen, and that was what the resolution was at before.
Windows 7
MSI R9 290 Gaming
Edit: Well after moving the computer back I tested it on my TV with the HDMI plug in the video card and it worked with no problems at the highest resolution. I then plugged it back into the monitor via DVI and tried to up the resolution to max and....it now works fine. So who knows. But it is working for the moment,
