Question I had to push the 16-pin connector unusually hard in order to get power ?

GPU: MSI 4070 Ti Super

Is that normal? i dont think i ever needed to push any kind of connector into any port with the same force in order for it to be properly connected, i needed to push it to the point i fear damaging the card, my fingers end up hurting a little bit, it looks like if there was even an small gap then the card wouldnt get any power, it took me several hours of testing the PSU in order to realize the card wast simply connected properly, thats why i found it to be so odd, has anyone else has a similar experience?

i personally havent had this issue with a 4070 Super. Are you using an adapter, they are cheaply made.

Tolerances stack up and you can get minor compatibility issues in rare cases. In any case the connector was redesigned to not power-on unless fully inserted so that part is normal.

600w is a lot to go through such a small connector, and when it still worked while not fully plugged in, that led to a whole lot of melted cables and connectors. Hence the redesign. Now it only melts for other reasons but not that.

Noted no 4070 to supers seem effected by melted cables only 4080 and 4090s cables do get hot though would suggest a fan blowing on that connector e.g fan in bottom blowing upwards

I’m wondering what you did to push the connector in properly? I tried for 4 hrs, it’s hard to push in and pull out. I cant find any videos or anyone else who has had this problem until I found your comment. My fingers are so sore and I have no idea where I’m going wrong with this cable!!!

I made sure there was no visible gap between the conector and the card itself no matter how small, also i would suggest to check if the cable is actually good, like testing it with another GPU or buying a new cable

Thank you. I used the cable that came with my msi PSU but it shouldn't be this hard surely, just not normal. Will probably buy a new cable cause the cable that came with the GPU is too short. Hopefully I haven't damaged the GPU itself with all the force I used.

I also feared damaging the Gpu but that was several months ago and has been working just fine to the date, so don't worry too much
