Just got a motherboard replaced since the computer wouldn't boot with the video card in the primary, X16 PCIe slot. Also, had the video car replaced because it was artifacting. Shortly after replacing the video card(RMA), I noticed the computer would only work with the card in the 2nd PCIe slot, (16x(runs at 4)).
After getting a replacement mobo, I installed the card in the primary PCIe and it worked great until I rebooted. Then, I get the black screen of death, I get all the way up until where you SHOULD see the profile screen where you enter your password.
Move the video card to the 2nd PCIe slot, runs at 4x, and it boots up fine into Windows. Move it back into the primary slot and it goes to black screen again. Because the video card runs at 4x in the secondary PCIe slot, I'm assuming it's consuming less power allowing the video card to function.
Would this be mobo issue, video card issue, or possible power supply issue? I find it hard to believe that it's the mobo since I JUST got it replaced and it boots up fine, BIOS runs etc with the card in the primary slot. Also, I doubt it's the video card since it WAS working initially. The only part I haven't swapped out was the power supply. Any ideas as to what could be causing this Black Screen after boot WHILE the card is in the primary x16 PCIe slot?
I'm running the card in the Secondary PCIe slot since it'll boot up and I can see fine, it's just now the card is running at 4x normal speed. 🙁
